WASHINGTON—Rep. Rick Larsen, WA-02, today voted in favor of a line-item veto to give the President power to eliminate wasteful spending in bills. Larsen’s vote in favor of H.R. 3521 follows his vote yesterday for the Civilian Property Realignment Act, which would allow for the federal government to sell off surplus federal properties. Both bills passed the House of Representatives.
“If we are serious about reducing the deficit, then we need to give the President the power to cut wasteful pork barrel spending out of bills passed by Congress,” Larsen said. “The line-item veto will help ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and pet projects are not snuck into major bills. I remain committed to rooting out wasteful spending as part of a balanced approach to cut the deficit.”
