Larsen: Republicans Ignore Tax Reform, Cut Taxes for the Wealthy
Washington, DC,
November 3, 2017
Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) issued the following statement today after House Republicans unveiled their tax package: “Americans need a tax code that makes investments in our country to create jobs and benefit the middle class. This can be done by bolstering our infrastructure, making education affordable and accessible, and increasing skills and training opportunities. “But in the latest of D.C. shockers, Republicans overlooked the needs of middle class America, ignored tax reform, and instead cut taxes for the wealthy. “I am not surprised that the Republican tax package is nothing more than a handout to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the middle class. Despite their talking points, the details prove their tax plan would not help the middle class. According to the Tax Policy Center, many middle-income households are likely to pay more under this plan. If you have student loans, or will rely on loans to help your children go to college, this tax bill could increase your taxes. And make no mistake, the Republican tax package will force cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. “The U.S. tax code is in desperate need of an overhaul, and that is no easy task. But the Republican package needs to work better for all Americans and not just the wealthy.” ### |
