Our District

I am proud to represent the communities that make up the Second District. Not only is it one of the most beautiful parts of the country, but it was where I was born and raised.

Washington’s Second Congressional District is comprised of the whole of Skagit, Whatcom, San Juan and Island Counties, as well as communities that line the I-5 corridor in Snohomish County. The Second District is one of the most scenic and diverse districts in the United States. Our landscapes stretch along the valleys and river deltas along the Puget Sound and the Salish Sea. Home to the third longest river on the West Coast, the district supports large migrations of shore birds, beloved salmon returns and the iconic bald eagle. The rivers throughout the district have deposited rich soils that contribute to some of the finest lands for agriculture in the country. Crops vary from high quality red and yellow potatoes to valuable seed crops. Skagit and Snohomish County produce nearly 75 percent of the U.S. supply of spinach and cabbage seed and nearly 95 percent of U.S. table beet seed. The berry producers in Skagit County produce raspberries, strawberries and blueberries unrivaled in quality and taste.

The district’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean, major west coast economic centers and trade partners like Canada has produced diversified economies throughout the region. The Second District is heavily dependent on trade, from major producers like Boeing to small manufacturers. Capitalizing on the region’s highly skilled workforce, more than 160 aerospace suppliers are producing parts for Boeing, and creating jobs throughout the region. Inspired by the excellent boating opportunities and Northwest Washington’s fishing heritage, marine manufacturers throughout the district are producing next generation work boats; ships to fulfill the needs of the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and the Washington State Ferry system; and recreational boats to tour the islands and sample the harvest of Puget Sound.

The Second District is proud to support the women and men of the U.S. Navy at both Naval Station Everett and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
