Larsen Votes to Terminate President Trump’s Unlawful National Emergency Declaration

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today voted to terminate President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency on the Southern border.

“I voted for the resolution to terminate the president’s national emergency declaration because Congress has a Constitutional obligation to serve as a check on the president.

“Building a wall is not the answer to border security. Congress already passed a bipartisan, bicameral agreement to provide funding for smart, effective border security, including $1.375 billion for new fencing.

“The best way to address border security is by hiring U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, investing in technology to examine vehicles coming across the border, hiring immigration judges to review asylum cases and providing economic development aid to help end corruption in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

“Americans deserve real talk about addressing the problems on the Southern border. When the president says walls are everything, it simplifies a very complex problem and simplifies the solutions to a complex problem.”
