Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today voted for the Climate Action Now Act (H.R. 9), legislation to prohibit using federal funds to withdraw from the Paris Agreement and to call on the administration to develop a public plan for the U.S. to meet the agreement’s greenhouse gas reduction goals. Larsen is an original cosponsor of the legislation.

“Congress must take concrete steps to address the threats of climate change. Since the beginning of the 116th Congress, Democrats in the House of Representatives have made addressing climate change a priority. The House has held more than 30 hearings dealing with the climate crisis across eight full committees and 14 subcommittees, including the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

“Withdrawing the United States from the Paris Agreement was a grave mistake. Scientists, industry and leaders from nearly every country on the globe agree: the changing climate threatens life on Earth. The only real way to make meaningful progress toward mitigating the effects of climate change is for countries to work together.

“I will continue to fight in Congress for environmental sustainability and to maintain the vitality of the Pacific Northwest’s wildlife, wilderness areas and green spaces for the use and enjoyment of current and future generations.”
