Larsen Votes to Protect Washingtonians with Pre-Existing Conditions

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today voted for legislation to reverse the administration’s efforts to weaken affordable health care coverage and undermine the Affordable Care Act’s protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

“No one should be denied coverage or charged higher prices because they have a pre-existing condition,” said Larsen. “Today I voted to undo the administration’s efforts to weaken the Affordable Care Act and ensure Washingtonians with pre-existing conditions continue to have access to high-quality, affordable health care.”

In October 2018, the administration issued guidance that weakened Section 1332 of the ACA. The guidance allows states to promote non-ACA compliant plans that lack protections for pre-existing conditions, raise health care costs, limit access to comprehensive coverage and reduce benefits.

H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act of 2019, blocks the administration’s efforts to allow states to weaken the level of benefits, affordability and coverage provided by the ACA.
