KAPS: Skagit G.I. receives federal funding

February 8, 2012

U.S. Representative Rick Larsen has announced that the Skagit General Investigation Study will receive $700,000 in federal funds from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers this year, along with money to dredge the Swinomish Channel.

The funding for the Skagit G.I. is included in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ work plan for fiscal year 2012, which was provided to congress this week.

Larsen says this is great news for Skagit County, and shows the strength of the Skagit G.I. and the community’s united support for the project.

Larsen says the corps will also contribute $2.2-million dollars towards dredging the Swinomish Channel in La Conner.
