KING 5: WA Congressional delegation meets public after Arizona shootings

By Allen Schauffler SEATTLE -- Are members of our Congressional delegation changing security procedures following the Arizona shooting? Would they even tell us if they were? After all, why publicize details which could be a matter of life and death? Representatives Jay Inslee and Rick Larsen were out and about on their home turf Wednesday, with no discernible security bubble around them. Inslee helped dedicate a charging station for electric cars in Redmond. Larsen checked out the ITT Technical Institute in Everett and improvements to the runway at Paine Field. There were no bodyguards, no pat-downs, no bag-checks. Just politicians continuing the business of government by mixing and mingling with their constituents. Larsen says his staff members here and in Washington, D.C. have gone through extensive reviews of security procedures and decided there's not much the need to change. "D.C. Capitol Police have determined the Arizona shooting was an isolated event", he says. |
