WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) supported a bipartisan aid package that delivers nearly $40 billion in emergency funding to support the Ukrainian people and help the young democracy continue to defend itself from Putin’s unprovoked attack. The Additional Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act passed the House of Representatives by a final vote of 368 to 57 and now heads to the Senate for consideration. “The United States continues to stand with Ukraine as the young democracy fights back against Putin’s unprovoked and unjustified attack,” said Larsen, a senior member of the Armed Services Committee. “Whether it takes two days, two weeks, two months or two years, the situation in Ukraine is not over until an independent and sovereign Ukraine has its boundaries back and the continued freedom to choose its leaders and future. I will continue to stand with Ukraine no matter how long it takes.” The bipartisan aid package includes:
The package also includes language that makes newly arrived Ukrainians eligible for support services like financial and medical assistance and employment preparation. Larsen recently urged the President to work with Congress to extend resettlement benefits and streamline work authorization processing for newly arrived Ukrainians after meeting virtually and in person with refugees and stakeholders. Larsen is a strong supporter of U.S. actions with allies and partners to help Ukraine defend itself and hold Putin accountable for his unprovoked war. Larsen recently returned from traveling to Italy and Greece where he met with servicemembers from Washington state as part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation to review U.S. contributions to NATO’s defense and deterrence mission. Last month, he supported bipartisan legislation to expedite the delivery of urgently needed security aid to Ukraine. In March, Larsen supported $13.6 billion in humanitarian, security and financial aid for Ukraine in the Fiscal Year 2022 spending package. Larsen also supports the ongoing ban on Russian oil and gas to further isolate the Russian economy. Additionally, Larsen recently backed efforts to mitigate impacts from closures of Russian airspace to commercial and cargo flights, welcome more Ukrainian refugees to the United States and urge the Biden-Harris administration to work with international partners to provide aid to Ukrainian refugees. ### |
