U.S. Representative Rick Larsen (WA-02) announced today that the U.S. House of Representatives has approved $500,000 for the Army Corps of Engineers to continue the Skagit River General Investigation (GI) in the House Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill for the next fiscal year.  After the President eliminated GI funding from his proposed budget, Larsen fought to restore needed funds for this important project. 

“Today we are one step closer to completing the GI study and protecting Skagit families, farms and businesses from future floods,” Larsen said. “I will keep fighting for Skagit Valley until we get the job done.”

The Skagit River General Investigation will identify Skagit River flood problems and opportunities to relieve flooding, reduce flood damage, and develop a flood damage reduction plan.

Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) has secured funding for Skagit River General Investigation in the Senate committee version of the funding bill, which awaits passage in the Senate. The House and Senate must agree on final legislation before the President can sign it into law.
