Rep. Rick Larsen, WA-02, issued the following statement today in opposition to a motion from Rep. Paul Broun, GA-10, that would call for a cut of more than $30 billion of federal transportation funds. The House is expected to vote on the motion this week.
“I strongly oppose the Broun motion to cut a third of the transportation funding,” Larsen said. “We need to be focused on creating jobs and investing in our future by repairing and building our roads, bridges, highways, ferries and transit systems. Every $1 billion we spend on transportation creates 47,000 jobs while laying the foundation for greater economic growth. With hundreds of thousands of construction workers out of work, this motion is exactly the opposite of what we should be doing. Congress needs to pass a long-term construction transportation bill to restore our infrastructure and get people back to work.”
