Rep. Rick Larsen, WA-02, today announced more than $1.5 million in funding for affordable housing for low-income families and economic development in Bellingham and Mount Vernon. The Department of Housing and Urban Development grants will be used by the cities to improve affordable housing and expand economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents.

“These grants will create local construction jobs and help low-income families keep a roof over their heads,” Larsen said. “I am a strong supporter of local programs like these expand access to affordable housing and promote economic development.”

The grants are as follows:

Bellingham
Community Development Block Grant – $711,300
HOME Investment Partnership Grant – $516,847

Mount Vernon
Community Development Block Grant – $292,317

Community Development Block Grants are annual grants for state and local governments to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and expanding economic opportunities, especially for low- and moderate-income people.
