Today, U.S. Representative Rick Larsen (WA-02) applauded the introduction of the DISCLOSE Act to address the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. FEC by ensuring our electoral process is transparent. A companion bill was also introduced in the U.S. Senate.
“Citizens have the right to know who is spending money to influence elections. The DISCLOSE Act will ensure transparency and accountability in our electoral process so voters can make informed decisions about the candidates running for office.
“The Citizens United ruling opened the door for special interests to have unprecedented influence on elections. I look forward to becoming a co-sponsor of this legislation so we can counteract this ruling by enacting tough disclosure requirements so voters can follow the money and know who is behind political advertisements.
“The DISCLOSE Act will ensure transparency, ban foreign companies from spending unlimited cash on our candidates and will prevent Big Banks on Wall Street from spending bailout money to influence elections. Folks in Northwest Washington deserve to participate in a fair election and this legislation will help make sure that happens.
