Rep. Rick Larsen, WA-02, issued the following statement today following the news that President Obama will nominate Sally Jewell to serve as U.S. Secretary of the Interior. “Sally is an outdoor enthusiast and a skilled business person, making her a smart choice to lead the Interior Department,” Larsen said. “As CEO of REI, Sally has been a key voice in promoting the recreation economy that drives many rural economies in the Pacific Northwest. She knows that effective management of public lands is not just about protecting forests and waterways, it is also about protecting jobs. “Sally has walked our trails, paddled in the Sound and climbed our mountains. I have no doubt that she will be an outstanding advocate for the Pacific Northwest. I look forward to working with Sally on issues important to our economy and environment, starting with the designation of the San Juan Islands National Monument.” |
