Larsen Statement on Special Counsel Indictments
Washington, DC,
October 31, 2017
U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) released the following statement today on federal indictments against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his business partner Rick Gates: “Yesterday’s indictments send a clear message on the importance of the special counsel’s investigation. The charges against Paul Manafort and Rick Gates are serious and the American public deserves the truth. This investigation must continue unimpeded, with the full cooperation of the President. Furthermore, I reiterate my call for Congress to create a bipartisan, independent commission into Russian meddling in our elections. This commission is needed now more than ever. The protection of our democratic process is not a partisan issue, it is an American issue.” Larsen has cosponsored the bipartisan Protecting Our Democracy Act which would create an independent commission to investigate the full extent of Russian actions to influence the 2016 election. Additionally, Larsen has cosponsored H.Res.111, a Resolution of Inquiry directing the Department of Justice to provide the House of Representatives with all information related to President Trump and his associates’ financial conflicts of interest, ethics violations, and violations of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, which prohibits elected officials from receiving payments from foreign governments. ### |
