Larsen Statement on Special Counsel Mueller Report

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) issued the below statement on the release of the redacted Special Counsel Mueller Report.

“The Mueller investigation resulted in 199 criminal charges, 37 indictments or guilty pleas and five prison sentences, including the president’s former campaign manager and personal attorney.

“The report clearly states Russia interfered in the 2016 election to benefit candidate Trump and that the president, his family and his administration repeatedly lied to the American people to hide their ties to Russia.

“At every step, the President has been reluctant to hold Russia accountable.

“On the question of obstruction of justice, the President’s claims of exoneration are directly contradicted in the report. In it, Mueller writes ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.’

“The facts spelled out in the redacted version of the report provide Congress a firm basis to continue investigation of issues of obstruction of justice. Additionally, the House Intelligence and House Oversight Committees must continue their probes into the scope and scale of Russian operations to influence the U.S. political process, if the president or his family were vulnerable to foreign exploitation or manipulation and if foreign or domestic actors sought to impede investigations.

“House Democrats can walk and chew gum at the same time. While investigating the President and his campaign, we will continue to advance and agenda For the People, cleaning up corruption, ensuring high quality and affordable health care, investing in transportation and infrastructure and providing students and workers with the tools they need to better compete in the global workforce.”
