Larsen Votes to Repeal Tax Increase on Tribal Children

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) issued the below statement following passage of the SECURE Act, which repeals a provision of the 2017 Republican tax law that increased the tax rate on tribal children who receive payments from tribal governments.

“I represent several tribes in Northwest Washington and have heard about how the ‘Kiddie Tax’ harms tribal children. The SECURE Act repeals provisions of the 2017 Republican tax law which treated tribal payments to children as ‘unearned income,’ increasing children’s tax rates.

For tribes, the Kiddie Tax nearly doubled or tripled the tax rate on tribal children receiving financial payments from tribal governments. I voted for the SECURE Act because it repeals the tax increase on tribal government payments to children, providing relief to tribal families.”
