Medicare and Medicaid

What is Medicare? 

Medicare is a health insurance program for:

  • People age 65 or older.
  • Some people with disabilities under age 65.
  • People with end-stage renal disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease).

There are four parts to Medicare:

  • Part A - Hospital Insurance
  • Part B - Medical Insurance
  • Part C - Medicare Advantage Plans
  • Part D - Prescription Drug Insurance

What is Medicaid and am I eligible?

Medicaid is a program for those who can't afford to pay for medical care.

You may be covered by Medicaid if:

  • You have high medical bills.
  • You receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
  • You meet certain financial requirements.
