Larsen Releases Statement on Trump's Tariff Executive Order

Today, Representative Rick Larsen (WA-02) released the following statement after President Trump issued an executive order dropping some agriculture products from its reciprocal tariffs:

“The President is once again trying to fix a problem he created, but his actions are too little too late. Prices are up and the economy is down because of the Trump administration’s tariff wars, failing economic policies and attacks on our Canadian friends and neighbors.

“Families and businesses all over Northwest Washington state are getting hit hard with higher costs. The cost of food in western Washington state has gone up 3.5 percent in the past year. The cost of gas in Washington state is up 16.9 percent since the start of the year. Monthly electric bills have gone up $26 for PSE customers and $5 for SnoPUD customers since January. Traffic from B.C. into Whatcom County is down 37 percent in October compared to the same time last year. And, the Administration is taking health care away from more than 30,000 people I represent, which will raise health care costs for all of us.

“Last month, the Senate once again voted in a bipartisan fashion to overturn Trump’s tariff tax hikes on everyday Americans. It’s time for House Republicans to get serious and take action to end these stupid tariff wars. I will keep fighting to bring down costs for the people I represent.”
