Larsen Statement on the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today released the following statement after voting against the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act:

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today released the following statement after voting against the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act:

“As a member of Congress and a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, my responsibility to advance policies that keep our country safe is one that I take seriously. After reviewing the policy carefully, it was clear to me that the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act would increase the risks to our country and to our men and women in uniform by exposing them to prosecution in foreign civil and criminal courts.

I am deeply committed to supporting to the victims, first responders and their families who have suffered as a result of the 9/11 attacks and I will continue to advocate for programs such as the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act, which extended the compensation fund for individuals (or relatives of deceased individuals) who were injured or killed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and extends the World Trade Center Health Program until the year 2090.”
