Rep. Rick Larsen, WA-02, today hailed the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision upholding health care subsidies for millions of Americans as a victory for Washington state and the country. The court ruled in the King v. Burwell decision that all Americans, regardless of the state they live in, can access health care subsidies through the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“Today’s Supreme Court decision marks a major victory for people across Washington state and the country. Twice now the highest court has ruled in favor of the Affordable Care Act. The law is legal, and it is working. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay

“Since the ACA became law in 2010, the number of uninsured people in Washington state has dropped 40 percent, to the lowest rate since 1987. In the counties in my district, more than 100,000 seniors, nearly 42,000 kids and 209,000 adults can receive preventive care at no cost to them. About 7,000 young adults in the district can stay covered through their parents’ insurance. And people of all ages can no longer be denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

“Today’s decision secures access to affordable health care for millions of people nationwide, no matter which state they call home. Middle class families and workers are better off because of the diverse array of options that all offer a high standard of affordable care.

“I am hopeful today’s decision will allow positive changes in our health care system to continue to take root. Let’s put to rest partisan efforts in Congress to bring down this important, life-saving law,” Larsen said.
