Larsen to Host Forum on Gun Violence

EVERETT, WA— On Saturday, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) will host a forum on gun violence and school safety. The public event will include student speakers, Snohomish County Sheriff Office Captain Scott Parker, University of Washington School of Public Health Professor Frederick Rivara and Snohomish County NAACP Criminal Justice Chair Riall Johnson.

The event follows the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida in February. Since 2008, there have been three mass shootings, as defined by the FBI, in the Second Congressional District including one at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Larsen has introduced and supported legislation that would invest in schools in order to protect students. He is also the co-chair of the School Safety Caucus which provides a forum for Congress to figure out the best ways for schools to approach school safety needs and to make investments in security and other safety measures.

Since the Parkland shooting, Larsen has met with Marysville and Bellingham students to discuss school safety as well as Snohomish County school district superintendents, school board leadership and local law enforcement on actions to keep students, teachers and staff safe in school.

This event is open to the press. Please RSVP to Amanda Munger at Amanda.Munger@mail.house.gov.
