Larsen Announces Nearly $110 Million in New Transportation, Climate Investments for Washington State Under Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced Washington state will receive nearly $110 million over five years under the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to provide Washingtonians with more transportation options, ease congestion in local communities and reduce carbon pollution across the state.

EVERETT, WA – Today, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced Washington state will receive nearly $110 million over five years under the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to provide Washingtonians with more transportation options, ease congestion in local communities and reduce carbon pollution across the state.

“The bipartisan infrastructure law delivers historic long-term investments in cleaner and greener transportation for people in Northwest Washington and across the state,” said Larsen. “This critical funding will help decrease commute times, lower costs for working families, combat harmful carbon pollution and support well-paying union jobs.”

The investments, which total more than $6.4 billion across the United States, are administered under the Federal Highway Administration’s Carbon Reduction Program, a new initiative established by the IIJA. As working families grapple with Putin’s price hike at the pump, this funding provides Washingtonians with more transportation alternatives and reduces commute times. The state can invest funds in a range of eligible projects, including:

  • Public transit services
  • Electric vehicle charging infrastructure
  • Traffic flow improvements
  • Congestion management technology
  • Pedestrian and cycle trails

Larsen is focused on delivering bold, long-term investments to protect Washington’s environment and fight climate change. On Thursday, April 21, at 5:30 p.m. PDT, Larsen will host a live telephone town hall with guests from the University of Washington’s Climate Impacts Group and the Washington State Department of Transportation to answer questions about environmental issues facing Northwest Washington and ongoing efforts to combat climate change. Attendees are invited to listen to a live stream at larsen.house.gov/live or dial in to (855) 962-0954 beginning at 5:30 p.m. PDT on Thursday.
